Use Operate Mode to monitor viewer displays

Operate Mode is the control view for connected prompting screens. It lets you see what each presenter sees, adjust each screen, edit while prompting, and check connections from one place.

Operate Mode is included with Operator, Studio, and Enterprise. Free and Creator users can select the locked Operate option to compare upgrades, but remain in Read mode until the upgrade is active.

Activating Operate Mode

1. Start a session and connect at least one viewer screen (local or remote).
2. When a display connects, a Read / Operate toggle appears in the top navigation bar. Click Operate.
3. The operator's reading view is replaced by a live mirror of the selected viewer's display.

Note: The operator's prompter continues scrolling normally behind the Operate Mode overlay. Playback is not interrupted when entering or exiting this mode.

Interface Layout

The Operate Mode interface is divided into three main areas:

1. Viewer Tabs (Top)

One tab per connected viewer. Click a tab to switch which viewer you're monitoring.

• You can click the Pencil icon on any tab to rename that viewer.
• Disconnected viewers dim out and show a timestamp of when they disconnected. They are retained for 60 seconds so you can see what happened.

2. Mirror Preview (Center)

A scaled, real-time replica of the selected viewer's screen.

• Shows exactly what the viewer sees: font size, margins, cue markers, and scroll position.
• You can drag the cue marker position directly on the mirror.

3. Settings Panel (Right)

Contains collapsible sections to control the selected viewer:

• Text Settings: Font size, line height, and margin sliders.
• Display Settings: Cue marker style, mirror mode (flip horizontally/vertically for beam splitters), fullscreen toggle, and clean display (hides viewer control bar).
• Remote Screen Layout: A miniature map showing where the prompter window sits on the viewer's physical screen. This is helpful to verify if a desktop viewer window is maximized or properly positioned.

Live Edit While Prompting

Live Edit appears when the current script is saved, you have edit permission, and the feature is available to the account. It opens an editor beside the selected display mirror without stopping playback.

The editor opens near the paragraph currently aligned with the prompter. Your typing appears on the operator view and connected screens while EasyPrompter continues saving in the background. EasyPrompter finishes saving before switching scripts.

Full Edit leaves the prompting workspace. If a script is playing on connected displays and the account supports continued playback, Full Edit can ask whether to Stop and edit or Keep playing. You can remember that choice on the current device and change it later under Settings → Preferences → Editing. When continued playback is unavailable, Full Edit pauses the connected displays and sends them to Standby.

If a connected screen misses an edit: The editor warns you that a screen may be out of date. Reconnecting that screen loads the saved script, and saving again sends the edit immediately.

Fullscreen Control

The fullscreen control works slightly differently by device:

• Clicking the switch asks the selected screen to enter fullscreen. An amber pulse means EasyPrompter is waiting for that screen.
• If the browser can enter fullscreen automatically (typical for desktop), it does so immediately.
• If not (typical for mobile/tablet), the viewer shows a "Tap to enter fullscreen" overlay that auto-dismisses after 10 seconds.
• The switch always reflects the viewer's actual fullscreen state. If the viewer declines or exits fullscreen (e.g., using the Escape key or swipe gesture), the switch turns off.
• Clicking the switch again while it's pending will cancel the request.

Connection Health

A colored dot next to each screen shows its connection health:

• ⚪ Verifying…: EasyPrompter is checking the screen, which is normal after a reload.
• 🟢 Connected: The screen is responding normally.
• 🟡 Unstable: Updates from the screen are delayed.
• 🔴 Disconnected: The screen stopped responding or was closed.

If the last display disconnects, Operate Mode remains open and disables display-specific controls. After the brief reconnection window, a persistent Displays Disconnected screen offers Go Back to Reading Mode and Connect Display. The live preview returns automatically if any display reconnects.

Tips & Edge Cases

• Mouse Wheel: Scrolling with the mouse wheel while your cursor is over the center monitor area will still scroll the operator's prompter. Scrolling over the right settings panel scrolls the settings, not the prompter.
• Remembered settings: This device remembers whether Operate Mode is open and preserves each screen's font, margin, mirror, and other display settings after a reload.
• Temporary connection loss: If a screen loses its connection while scrolling, it keeps moving at the last speed. A pulsing amber dot appears until the screen reconnects and catches up with the operator.
• Mobile Constraints: Some mobile browsers restrict fullscreen access or wake locks. If the controls appear unresponsive, the device may need to be plugged in or use a different browser.
